The Adaptation Fund has become the first multilateral climate fund to establish new funding streams for grants to back locally led adaptation (LLA) initiatives. The Fund has announced US$26.5 million to integrate LLA with the Fund’s existing funding window on Enhanced Direct Access, creating a more comprehensive and expanded opportunity for the Fund’s implementing entities at national, regional, and multilateral levels.
Another $35 million will be allocated to a new LLA global aggregator program, facilitating the distribution of small LLA grants to entities not accredited with the Fund. These include civil society organizations, Indigenous peoples’ organizations, local governments, community groups, entrepreneurs, and others.
