People in Sharankhola are well prepared to deal with cyclones now

People living in Sharankhola, situated right next to the Sundarbans in Bagerhat district, grapple with cyclones and recurrent flooding caused by tidal surges. Cycone Sidr that took place in 2007, devastated the lives and livelihoods of many people in Sharankhola. But this also made them understand the importance of early warning and disaster preparedness. After losing her home to cyclone Sidr, Fazila Begum relocated to a new place and built a new home on a raised plinth. She is also aware of the important steps to follow before, during and post the disasters. She is now well prepared to survive any cyclone.
