Victor Orindi, a University of Nairobi PhD student was awarded €15,000 on Friday, Nov 12, 2022 at the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt, COP27. Victor is among four Individuals that were recognized for community-led initiatives for climate change adaptation.

The Forum received the Award in the local innovation category under the Local Adaptation Champion Awards, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) based in the Netherlands. Swayam Shikshan Prayog is one of four winners of the Local Adaptation Champions Awards, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation that is being announced at the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), was established in response to a deadly earthquake that shook Latur and Osmanabad in 1993 and killed 10,000 people and demolished 52 villages. The group trained women to become farmers and entrepreneurs, enabling them to become financially independent and rise above the adversity and loss they'd encountered.
