Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Global Center on Adaptation Prof Dr Patrick Verkooijen visited different areas of Chattogram to witness the impact of climate change firsthand.

Professor Patrick V. Verkooijen, CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), visited Chattogram today to listen and learn from local communities who are leading in the preparation of People’s Adaptation Plans, aimed at improving climate resilience in the city’s informal settlements. The visit underscores the GCA’s commitment to supporting local leadership by vulnerable populations in their fight against climate change, and linking their priorities for resilience building to investments by international financial institutions.

The Alliance for Locally Led Transformative Action on Loss and Damage (ALL ACT) has launched a call for applications for a new scholarship and award in memory of one of the world's leading experts on loss and damage, Dr Saleemul Huq. The scholarship seeks to support researchers and local organizations in the Global South developing innovative solutions and strategies to address non-economic dimensions of loss and damage.  

GCA and BBC Media Action, hosted an experience sharing and completion ceremony in Dhaka, Bangladesh to celebrate the completion of a year-long training program from 40 journalists and 24 young communicators from six climate vulnerable districts in Bangladesh.

In Kenya, Mombasa County, located 485 kilometers from Nairobi, is regularly the target of extreme weather events, particularly floods, which destroy infrastructure and people’s livelihoods. As a result, the municipality has just launched the “City Local Adaptation Booster (LAB)” initiative

In northern Tanzania, the Pastoral Women’s Council (PWC) enhances indigenous pastoralist women’s leadership capabilities to build women’s capacity to achieve equality as decision-makers in pastoralist societies. In recognition of their efforts, PWC has been awarded the 2023 GCA Local Adaptation Champions Award under the Women in Leadership Category.
